Roots Music

In 2011, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, hosted a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition called "New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music." The exhibit was showcased in the historic district at the recently restored Hattiesburg Train Depot. The Library of Hattiesburg, Petal & Forrest County commissioned me to create a banner promoting books, videos, and programs enhancing visitors' experience.

We named the banner "Roots Music Comes to the Library" and added a special local touch by featuring legendary musicians born in Mississippi. The musicians chosen were Jimmie Rodgers, Robert Johnson, B. B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, and Elvis Presley. To evoke a down-to-earth feel, I sketched the lettering and illustrations quickly.
